Conservative talk-radio host and activist, born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, USA. He worked as a disc jockey and sports publicist before beginning a radio programme in San Diego, CA, at the end of the 1980s, blending political commentary and satire. His growing popularity soon led him to New York City, where he built a national audience for his daytime show. He called feminists 'feminazis', and conservationists became 'environmental wackos'. He was given credit for rousing conservative sentiment that contributed to the Republican capture of the House of Representatives in 1994. By the end of the decade, his national influence had somewhat ebbed, but he remained a symbol of how talk radio could reshape American politics.

William Kentridge is a South African artist. He was born in Johannesburg in 1955. He took a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and African Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand and then a diploma in Fine Arts from the Johannesburg Art Foundation. At the beginning of the 1980s, he studied mime and theatre at the L'?cole Internationale de Th??tre Jacques Lecoq in Paris. He had hoped to become an actor, however: "I was fortunate to discover at a theatre school that I was so bad an actor [... that] I was reduced to an artist, and I made my peace with it.". Between 1975 and 1991, he was acting and directing in Johannesburg's Junction Avenue Theatre Company. In the 1980s, he worked on television films and series as art director.
Kentridge is perhaps best known for his animated films. These are constructed by filming a drawing, making erasures and changes, and filming it again. He continues this process meticulously, giving each change to the drawing a quarter of a second to two seconds' screen time. A single drawing will be altered and filmed this way until the end of a scene. These drawings are later displayed along with the films as finished pieces of art.

Diller Scofidio + Renfro is a New York City based architectural firm founded by Elizabeth Diller and Ricardo Scofidio. They are particularly well known for their interdisciplinary approach to architecture. Their influence stems as much, if not more, from their contributions to the theory and criticism of architecture as from their built works. These are sometimes in the form of written work, but more often are in the form of installation art, video art or electronic art. They are the first architects to win a MacArthur Prize.

Born Sept. 13, 1964, Gulfport, Miss., U.S. American talk show host, journalist, and political commentator.
Smiley grew up near Kokomo, Ind., and attended Indiana University at Bloomington but left in 1988 to work for Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley. (In 2003 he completed his bachelor's degree.) Smiley became a national broadcaster in 1996 when he took positions as a political commentator on the Tom Joyner Morning Show and as host of BET Tonight with Tavis Smiley on the Black Entertainment Television cable network. His interviews also began appearing on the national television networks ABC, NBC, and CNN.
In 2001 Smiley began hosting National Public Radio's The Tavis Smiley Show, but he resigned three years later because he felt the network had not done enough to reach out to a diverse audience. He returned to the public radio airwaves one year later, however, with a new show over Public Radio International. In addition to his radio presence, Smiley launched an eponymous interview show in 2004 on Public Broadcasting Service television stations across the country; the program won the NAACP Image Awards in 2005 and 2006.
Smiley wrote many books that addressed the issues facing African Americans, including Doing What's Right (2000) and Keeping the Faith (2002). He also edited a collection of essays by prominent intellectuals, The Covenant with Black America (2006). In 1999 he founded the Tavis Smiley Foundation, which convened an annual youth leadership summit. In 2004 he donated $1 million to Texas Southern University, which established the Tavis Smiley School of Communications and the Tavis Smiley Center for Professional Media Studies. In June 2008 Smiley resigned his position with the Tom Joyner Morning Show, claiming that he could no longer fit the program into his schedule.
